COPD Treatment
COPD Treatment
Also referred to as chronic airflow limitation, COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease caused by particles and gases from smoking. This serious condition restricts the air from properly flowing to and from the lungs as the respiratory airway becomes narrow.
COPD is a fatal illness. In fact, it claims more than 100,000 lives every year. Apart from this, COPD can significantly interfere with the patient's day to day activity.
One way to combat the serious risks of COPD is through treatment. The medication and treatments for Chronic Obstructive Respiratory Disease usually varies depending on the severity of the condition. In most cases, the first step involves complete withdraw from smoking. This prevents the patient from causing further damage to his or her lungs.
Inhalers are also common treatments used to dilate the airways. By delivering medication straight to the lungs, this device suppress symptoms like difficulty in breathing, thus allowing the person to breathe properly. Inhaled oral, and intravenous steroids are also proven to suppress lung inflammation.
For severe cases, patients are encouraged to undergo surgery to remove the diseased part of the lungs. Other treatments such as low flow oxygen, intubation, as well as ventilation are also beneficial to COPD patients.
